At 63 Years old I am maintaining am exercise routine such as:
- 150+ minutes per week of moderate cardio
- Strength 2–3 days per week hitting all major muscle groups
- Balance and mobility work at least 2–3 days per week.
Do daily push‑ups, but cycle intensity a bit so you recover well.
Monday – Push + walk + light core
- Brisk walk: 30 minutes (your usual pace).

For thirty years, I worked in septic installation, inspection, and maintenance. That job was basically a full-time exercise program. Moving gravel, digging up septic lids, hauling pipes, crawling around tight spaces, bending, lifting, squatting, and climbing were part of almost every day. I didn’t have to think about exercise—it just happened naturally as part of the work.

Building D&D homebrew is especially rich for brain recovery: I create custom monsters, design new maps, and craft playable characters for my server. Immediately after leaving the hospital coding looked foreign to me, even though I have been playing with it since the early nineties. I am still slower, have to take breaks more often, but it is coming back. That in itself makes me feel better.
This Routine Is My Replacement and My Recovery Plan
This weekly workout routine is not just my intentional replacement for the physical work I did for thirty years in septic installation, inspection, and maintenance. It is also my stroke recovery plan.
Digging up septic lids, moving gravel, hauling equipment, and crawling around tight spaces are gone—but I’m not letting that strength, stamina, and mental clarity go with them. I’m keeping them alive, one workout and one brain exercise at a time.
Physical exercise supports my brain’s ability to heal and form new connections.
